I enjoyed reading most of this book - lots of wonderful descriptions of treks to desert locales unknown to me and interesting history and mystery associated with those places. I did skip through some of the early narrative about the author's experience with the artist Mike Heizer and his art forms as I was not an appreciative audience for bulldozing acres of desert into huge formations. However the rest of the book offers lots of insight and speculation about human relationship to and experiences with vast, seemingly empty, spaces.
